Ponsetti Method for Clubfoot

by admin

The Posetti Method for clubfoot is being used with increased frequency. Clubfoot or talipes equinovarus is a deformity of the foot that is present at birth. It may be an isolated problem or it may be part of a genetic syndrome. The Ponsetti Techinque for Clubfoot involves vigorous mobilisation and manipulation of the deformed joints in the foot and then the application of a plaster splint to hold the foot in that position. As part of the ponsetti methods, this is repeated at regular interval for several months until the foot is in it corrected position. If the foot is rigid to begin with or the Ponsetti Technique fails, surgery is often then considered.
