Pitted keratolysis is a common problem of the foot that sweats a lot. It is due to a cornybacterium infection of the epidermis. This infection causes a lot of small cavities or pits, hence the name pitted keratolysis. There is also often an odour associated with the sweaty foot or hyperhidrosis. The best treatment for pitted keratolysis is to prevent the sweaty foot. This has to be a long term strategy as the pitted keratolysis is likely to recur. This will mean the use of absorbent hosiery and powders. If need be, topical antibiotics can be used to treat the actual infection that causes pitted keratolysis.
