Navicular Stress Fracture

by admin

A navicular stress fracture is no a common injury in athletes, but when it does happen it has huge impacts on their ability to train and compete. The navicular stress fracture occurs in the navicular bone which is at the top of the arch of the foot. Due to this positioning of the bone, it is subjected to a lot of load, so if there is a biomechanical abnormality that increases that load, combined with a high levels of sporting activity, then the risk for a navicular stress fracture is high. Invariabily the navicular stress fracture is treated by 6-8 weeks away from sport in some sort of splint or brace, so the athlete will need to substitute some other fitness activity to keep themselves in shape while recovering.
